The connection of Australians in the Knights program continues as 6'11" Forward Callum Barnes signs his Letter of Intent. Callum is from Sydney, Australia and played for the Bears at the North Sydney Basketball Club.
Head men's basketball coach, Alex Tyrrell, saw Callum play while home in Australia this summer.
"Callum has some physical attributes that you can't teach", Said Coach Tyrrell. "He is also able to make some plays that not many people can. I am very excited to get in the gym with him and work on his game. I think he will surprise some people this year".
The Norths Bears program is the same club that former All-American, Lewis Holey, played with.
"As most programs do, we needed a big to help protech the paint", Coach added. "Lewis was a special player and person, and he did a great job of anchoring our defense when he was here. My hopes are that Callum can grow into that type of player as he has the size and athleticism to do so".
Callum will be studying Business Management and Technology at Vermont Tech.
Barnes felt that Vermont Tech was a great fit for him and is very excited about the opportunity.
"Vermont Tech is my college of choice for two main reasons", said Barnes. "First, in my research and interactions with the college, I came to the strong conclusion that this is a place I would fit in and thrive. Secondly, Vermont Tech and Coach Alex have backed me, and given me the opportunity to follow my dream. For that, the college, and program, will have my total commitment".
The Knights are coming off a 20-13 season, which saw them return to the National Tournament for the first time in 5 years. For more information about the program please contact Coach Tyrrell at email@example.com
