Kevin Carr, Nick Simpson, Trent Roleau and Coach Dyer Receive Conference Post Season Honors
The Yankee Small Conference held its annual basketball banquet on February 18 and Vermont Tech took center stage. Three Knights were named to the All Conference Team: Kevin Carr, Nick Simpson and Trent Roleau. Only ten players are selected. The voting is done by the head coaches in the conference. A coach may not vote for his own players.
Junior Kevin Carr (23 ppg) received the greatest number of votes and was named YSCC Player of the Year. This the second time Kevin has been named to the YSCC All Conference Team. Kevin is an all around player. He is among the nation’s leaders in scoring, free throw percentage, three point shooting percentage, assists and steals.
Senior Nick Simpson (29 ppg) was the second highest vote getter. Nick led the USCAA, the NAIA, the YSCC and the Sunrise Conference in scoring. Simpson set the all-time single season scoring record at VTC this year with 936 points. Nick also is among the USCAA’s leaders in offensive rebounding.
Senior Trent Roleau (9 ppg.7.7 rpg) was the third Knight named to the All Conference team. This was Trent’s third time on the ballot but his first selection to the All Conference squad.
Kevin Carr and Nick Simpson were also named the five member Sunrise Conference All-Conference First Team.
“I’m really happy for these guys,” said Coach Dyer. “They really earned it. I’m particularly happy for Trent. Kevin and Nick have been big time players for us this year. That’s been obvious. We had our own version of Batman and Robin going on all year long. We’re not, however, a two dimensional team. Trent, in many ways, was our most valuable player. I think the coaches in the league caught on to this. In spite of the fact that he did not put up big scoring statistics this year, he played an enormous role on this team. He’s one of the best that ever laced them up at Vermont Tech. We’re going to miss him next year. He’s one of the toughest guys I ever coached.”
Coach John Dyer was named Coach of the Year in both the YSCC and the Sunrise Conference.
