Knights Cruise Past Paul Smith’s for 18th Win
Vermont Tech travelled to Paul Smith’s College Wednesday night for a non-conference contest against traditional foe, Paul Smith’s. The ride home was a happy one. The Knights blasted the Bobcats, 102-65 behind the scoring duo of Nick Simpson and Kevin Carr. The dynamic duo combined for 65 points. Simpson hit for 36 and Carr had 29.
The team played without senior rebounder Trent Roleau. Roleau was sidelined with the flu. “Josh Lindsey really stepped up in Trent’s absence,” said Coach Dyer after the game. “I asked him to go out and get a double-double and he did just that.” Lindsey had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Point guard Alex Tyrrell also had a double-double. Alex dished out 11 assists and added 14 points of his own.
“This was a solid team effort,” said Coach Dyer. “Simpy and Kevin had great games. We’re getting spoiled by their scoring output. However, many of their points came as the result of fast breaks caused by our team defensive effort. I thought the guys showed good defensive intensity tonight—particularly in the later part of the first half. We opened up a twenty point lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. The lead was purely the result of good defensive play, causing turnovers and pushing the ball upcourt in transition.”
