Knights Edge Fisher College in OT
Vermont Tech finished strong to defeat league leading Fisher College Wednesday night in Boston in overtime, 97-91.
Kwei General, Josh Lindsey and Nick Simpson all hit key free throws in the overtime segment to ice the win for Vermont Tech.
“We’ve been consistently good from the foul line all season long, said Coach John Dyer after the win. The guys work at it in practice and their persistence has paid off. Kwei hit four straight free throws in OT to keep us in the lead. When Nick stepped to the line near the end of the OT for two shots that could pretty much ice it, I felt confident that he would put the shots in the net. Nick is a pressure player. Everyone on our team knows he’ll deliver. We’re lucky. We have a number of players that fit that description.”
Vermont Tech had a balanced scoring attack, with four players in double figures. Nick Simpson led the way with 29 points. Kevin Carr hit for 21 points. Josh Lindsey poured in 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Trent Roleau had 13 points.
“Fisher is a big, physical and talented ball club. They present some difficult match-up problems for us. We knew we would have to play a great game to come out of this gym with a win. We overcame early game foul difficulties, took good shots in the second half and, of course, we cashed in at the foul line. Special cudos have to go to Josh Lindsey tonight. He had his strongest game of the season. He grabbed some critical rebounds for us down the stretch and made some very tough inside shots under pressure.”
The win makes the Knights 22-4 on the season and tightens the Sunrise Conference race considerably. “We’ll see how this plays out, said Coach Dyer. We could have a four way tie for the top spot in the Sunrise. Four teams could finish 8-4. The Sunrise Conference is always well-balance, but I never remember the league leaders being this close before.
