Knights Crush UMA
The men’s basketball team steamrolled last season’s YSCC Champion, the University of Maine/Augusta by a score of 120-67 in Auburn, Maine on Sunday. The win was the 11th straight for the Knights. The team finishes the first semester undefeated (11-0) and with a firm grip on first place (9-0) in the highly competitive Yankee Small College Conference.
Seven players hit double figures for Vermont Tech. Freshman post player Josh Lindsey hit for 20 points; Kevin Carr had 19 points and six assists; Nick Simpson and NiikAkwei General-Vanderpui each had 18 points. Simpson also had 11 rebounds for his fourth “double double” of the season. Senior Trent Roleau had 14 points. Point guard Alex Tyrrell had a brilliant game, contributing 13 points and 10 assists—a “double double” the hard way. Freshman Tony Louie hit for 13 points.
“I think this was our best overall team effort of the season,” commented Coach John Dyer afterwards. “Our guys came to play today. We knew UMA had just defeated a tough CM team by twenty points. They are the defending YSCC champs. We challenged ourselves to play with intensity today and we came out and did just that.”
The Knights jumped to an early double digit lead and led throughout the game. The halftime score was 57-27.
