Trent Roleau Scores 1,000th Point
Senior forward Trent Roleau entered the Vermont Tech history books on Friday night as his team crushed Sunrise Conference foe, UMaine Presque Isle, 117-70. Trent controlled the defensive boards with a game high 16 rebounds. He also added 12 points. His last field goal came with five and a half minutes remaining as his teammates jumped in the air in exhileration.
“It was a great moment,” said Coach John Dyer. “Trent is loved and respected by his teammates. He is the consummate team player. He does the really tough things in a basketball game. They all knew Trent needed 11 points tonight to hit 1,000. I’m pretty sure Trent didn’t know he was this close. When he hit the shot, the bench erupted.”
Trent now enters an exclusive club. He is only the sixth Vermont Tech men’s basketball player to reach the 1,000 point mark.
“When we finally get around to establishing a Vermont Tech Athletic Hall of Fame,” Coach Dyer commented, “Trent Roleau will be one of the initial inductees. No one deserves it more. For the past four years, he has given his heart to this team. I have watched him mature into a very, very fine man. His parents have every right to brim with pride. If there is one word that sums him up, it is ‘integrity.’ I’ve loved coaching him. Trent is rightly honored for scoring 1,000 points but his most important contribution on the court has been his rebounding. We have half a season left to go and he may conclude his career as the all time leading rebounder in Vermont Tech history. He’s approaching the 1,000 mark in that category as well.”
