Three second half goals cost the Men’s Soccer in a 3-2 loss.
Randolph Center, VT – Three second half goals by Ben Franklin IT spoiled Vermont Tech's Home opener as the Knights fell 3-2.
Senior Joaquin Currier-Cubero (Danville, VT) got things started as he scored his and the team's first goal of the season. In the 20th minute of the game Freshman Phillip Hepburn (Milton, VT) took a rifle of a shot and Ben Franklin IT goalkeeper Courtney Reynolds made the save, but could not hold on to it as Currier-Cubero was there to put the ball in the back of the net.
Vermont Tech would take control of the first half as the team was able to get 14 shots off on the Chargers.
Early in the second half, Ben Franklin IT would get the equalizer from Tomas Morales Vasque. After Vermont Tech lost the ball at midfield, Vasque delivered a shot form 18-yards out to the near post to tie the score at 1-1.
Vermont Tech gave up two quick corner kicks and with Kevin Facey taking both he was able to find Mohammed Elrhoufi on the second one, to put the Chargers up 2-1. Elrhoufi scored his second goal of the match as Albert Williams was able to split the Vermont Tech defense and go one on one with Senior goalkeeper Darian Calverley (Attleboro, MA). Elrhoufi was able to find the back of the net as Ben Franklin IT took a comfortable lead 3-1.
Vermont Tech Green Knights were not done yet as time was running out in the 89th minute Hepburn found himself alone in the midfield, took a couple of dribbles and fired a shot from 30-yards out to find the far post. The goal was Hepburn's first goal of his collegiate career unfortunately it was not enough as the green knights lost 3-2.
Calverley made three saves for the Green Knights, and Reynolds and Diego Ojopi combined for seven saves for the chargers.
Vermont Tech will take to the field next Sunday September 5, 2015 as they host Southern Maine CC, the Men's game starts at 3:00pm
