Men's Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule
Six Home Games Highlight 2013 Campaign
Randolph Center, VT - The Vermont Tech Athletic Department has announced a slate of six home games and seven away for the 2013 men's soccer schedule.
The Knights kick off the season on the road, as for the first time in three years they travel up to the tip of Maine to take on Maine-Fort Kent. They face the Bengals on Saturday, August 31 and then Holland College from Canada the next day. The boys then have a full week before their home debut. It will also be their first Yankee Small College Conference West Division match, with Paul Smith's coming to town on Saturday, September 7. They will not have much time to recover from the match however, as they turn right around on Sunday and travel to St. Joe's (VT) in Rutland for their second conference and divisional matchup.
VTC returns many of the key players from a young 2012 team. Amongst the players coming back to the Knights are Senior Defender Ramsey Allen (Sheldon, VT), Senior Forward Hannes Fisher-Byrne (Strafford, VT), Junior Forward Wellington Newton (Burlington, VT), and Junior Defender Brigham Reese (Canaan, VT). Major losses from last year's squad include Forward Matt Golden (Lisbon, NH), the team's leading scorer and Goalie Nate James (Arlington, VT).
After facing the College of St. Joseph, the team plays home versus in-state rival Johnson State before again hitting the road to take on divisional opponent Hapmshire College on Sunday, September 15, and another divisonal foe in NHTI on September 19. In a quirk of the schedule, the following Sunday the squad comes home to again face Hampshire. A home stand of three games next awaits the Knights. St. Joe's (VT) comes into Randolph Center on Wednesday, September 25 at 4:00pm followed that weekend by a Friday/Saturday matchup of non-conference perennial United States Collegiate Athletic Association power University of Maine-Fort Kent (Sep. 27) and SUNY Canton (Sep. 28).
VTC starts October on the road in Boston for a contest with the Falcons of Fisher College (Oct. 4), and then tavel to Paul Smith's for the second match with the Bobcats on Sunday, October, 6. The last month of competition is a short one for the Knights, as they close out at home with the divisional re-match against NHTI (Oct. 9) before potentially heading into the YSCC Playoffs.
The first round of the YSCC Playoffs will occur at the field of the higher seeded team starting October 15, while the YSCC Final Four takes place at NHTI in Concord, NH the weekend of October 19-20.
