Paul Smith's, NY - The Vermont Tech Men's Soccer team succumbed to Paul Smith's College in the first round of the Yankee Small College Conference Playoffs on Sunday, October 14th. The loss ends the season for Vermont Tech, while Paul Smith's advances to the YSCC Final Four which is to be held at NHTI October 19-21.
In what has been a difficult and trying season for the men's soccer team, Vermont Tech dropped their opening round game of the YSCC playoffs to Paul Smith's College (9-5, 7-2). The home team was able to garner an early advantage with Anthony Ventello scoring a goal off a pass from Ryan Lawley at just the 10:05 mark. The goal was the only goal of the half, and, as it turned out, was the only goal necessary for the Bobcats to secure victory over the visiting Knights.
In the second, Paul Smith's scored ten minutes into the period and then ten minutes later to increase their lead to 3-0. At 69:46 Jeff Schmidt scored an unassisted goal to mark the final tally of 4-0 for the home team. Throughout the day the Knights had a difficult time on offense, which has been a problem for them the entire season. The visitors managed nine shots, four in the first half and five in the second, while the Bobcats pestered VTC Goalie Nate James (Sr./Arlington, VT) with 27.
Vermont Tech finishes their 2012 campaign with a final record of 3-10-1, 2-6-1.
