Men's Soccer Sweep Weekend Series
Follow Saturday Win at St. Joe's with Sunday Home Victory Versus Fisher College
Randolph Center, VT - Vermont Tech moved to 2-1, 1-0 on the season with a victory on Sunday, September 9th versus the visiting Fisher College Falcons. The Knights scored early and often, five goals in the first half, six in the second to make the final score 11-0.
Matt Golden (Sr./Lisbon, NH) seems to have had no ill-effects from the quadricep injury that kept him out of the first game of the season against the University of Maine Presque Isle as he connected on four consecutive goals to begin the game. Golden opened the flood gates of scoring for Vermont Tech at just 1:56 into the game, and then scored his next three within the first twenty minutes of the first half. He finished the game with seven shots, six on goal.
After the onslaught by Golden, Sophomore Olivier Durand (Port Au Prince, Haiti) placed one in the back of the net at 28:22 to give the Knights a 5-0, which would be the score at the half. Durand, however, was not done, as he tacked on two more goals in the second half, all coming unassisted. The hat-trick was a career high for Durand at the college level.
In the second half, Ramsey Allen (Jr./Sheldon, VT) did his part to extend the lead of the Knights, as he both scored a goal and assisted on another. In addition, Colby Yandow (Sr./Fairfax, VT) scored twice, one with the assist from Allen, and Kyle Bigelow (So./Woodsville, NH) scored the final goal of the game at 73:19, his first in a Vermont Tech uniform.
Vermont Tech kept the pressure on for much of the game, spending the majority of time in the end of the Falcons, and finishing with 30 shots. For Fisher College, Steve Masterson made 10 saves on 11 shots on goal, and, on the offensive side of the ball, Caio Gomes led the team with three shots on goal.
Vermont Tech next takes to the road to face Hampshire College in their second YSCC contest of the season on Sunday, September 16th.
