Women's Basketball fall to UMFK in the first round of the Ed Hockenbury Classic
Northfield, VT - Four Maine-Fort Kent players scored double digits with Sabrina Head (Fremont, Calif.) posting a team-high 13 points to lead the Bengals to an 89-43 win against Vermont Tech on Friday evening in game two of the Ed Hockenbury Classic.
With the win, the Bengals improve to 3-3 on the season, while the loss drops the Knights to 2-4.
In addition to Head, the Bengals saw 11 points from Danielle Carrillo (Mendota, Calif.), Ziggy Brown (Uniondale, N.Y.), and Necole White (Vallejo, Calif.). Jasmin Rowland (Salinas, Calif.) led the Bengals on the boards with 13 rebounds.
Vermont Tech was led by Daisi Poole (Monmouth, Maine) with a game-high 18 points. Kaitlin Lyford (Barre, Vt.) and Shana Lingwood-McLaughlin (Cayman Islands) chipped in with seven points, while Paige Wells (Orleans, Vt.) led the Knights on the boards with six rebounds.
Maine-Fort Kent would score 50 points in the first half to Vermont Tech's 17 before adding 39 additional points in the second for the win. The Bengals outrebounded Vermont 57-23 and shot 49.4 percent from the floor, scoring 38 points off of Vermont Tech's 29 turnovers and 18 on second chances.
Vermont Tech will take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) at 1:00pm on Saturday in the Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich University.
