Women's Basketball defeated by MCLA 69-37
Northfield, VT - MCLA defeated Vermont Tech, 69-37 in the consolation game of the 2014 Ed Hockebury Classic on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 4-3 on the season, while the Knights drop to 2-5 overall.
MCLA's Ashley Clawson (Tolland, Conn.) posted a team-high 15 points, while Brayleigh Hanlon (Wynantskill, N.Y.) and Courtney McLaughlin (Pittsfield, Mass.) added 10 points each for the Trailblazers.
Paige Wells (Orleans, Vt.) scored nine points for Vermont Tech while Alyssa Cassanelli (Barkhamsted, Conn.) contributed five on the day.
Both teams struggled to score early on with the scoreboard showing 2-2 after five minutes of play. MCLA managed to find its rhythm and busted the gate wide open, shooting 41.7 percent from the floor to lead 32-19 at the break.
Vermont Tech looked to strike early but the Trailblazers' strong full court pressure forced the Knights to turn the ball over 31 times, scoring 32 points in the process. MCLA added 37 additional points in the second half to close out the contest with a 69-37 victory.
