Bobcats Blank Knights
Physical game results in 3-0 home loss
The men's soccer match was a tightly fought battle that saw intense physical play from the outset. The teams both earned several warnings from the referee, although only one yellow card was given and only one penalty kick awarded. Neither team shied away from the contact, going in full-bore to every loose ball. The squads from Paul Smith's College and Vermont Tech both wanted the game badly, but it was Paul Smith's who eventually came out on top, shutting out the Green Knights to earn a tiring 3-0 victory.
The Bobcats of Paul Smith's opened the scoring just over twenty minutes into the game when Jeff Schmidt (Sophomore, Oswego, NY) connected on a kick that beat Senior Goalie Alex Berteau (Milton, VT). The Bobcats added two more goals, both from outside the 18' to make the halftime score 3-0. Junior Zach Fortuna (Ludlow, VT) replaced Berteau after halftime, but his second half shutout was not enough to save the game. Despite numerous excellent scoring opportunities, the Vermont Tech men could simply not find the back of the net. Junior Matt Golden (Lisbon, NH) and Sophomore Hannes Fisher-Byrnes (Strafford, VT) led the team with three shots a piece.
Paul Smith's College is now 3-0, 3-0 YSCC, while Vermont Tech drops to 1-4, 1-2 YSCC. Paul Smith's next game is at home vs Clinton County College. The Green Knight men next play on September 17 at 3pm at Hampshire College.
