Vermont Tech Cross Country returned this week from it's annual training camp on Cape Cod. Coach Bob Dunkle donates his house for a week and the team travels down for training and team bonding. This is the 8th year that Vermont Tech has gone to Cape Cod, and the largest group that has gone: 4 Members of the Women's team and 4 Men from the Men's team. Training included tempo runs on the canal, intervals on the beach ( 8x700m) Intervals on the road ( 10x800M ) as well as a 5 mile race point run on the beach and 20+ mile bike ride on Martha's Vineyard.
During the training camp the Men's team chose Kevin Kresock and Matthew Kelley as team captains. Kevin is a Sophomore from Randolph Vermont and has proven himself as a strong runner and charismatic member of the team. Matt is from Fort Kent Maine and is a Junior this year. Matt is a solid runner and a great example of a great workout ethic.
The Women's team chose Senior Olivia Machado and Freshman Angela Lazzaro. Olivia is from Manchester, NH and Angela is from Milton, VT. Olivia started running last year with Vermont Tech and has become an important part of the team. During the training camp Angela demonstrated stronh leadership abilities and an eagerness to do all the workouts.
THe Knights are looking forward to their 1 mile time trial to kick off the season on Monday night at 5:30pm. Then their first race is right at home on September 7th at the Knights Invitational and Maple Syrup Challenge.
