Randolph Center, VT - Vermont Tech Cross country hosted their 4th annual home meet on Saturday Sept 10th. Attending the race were Paul Smith's College, New Hampshire Technical Institute and the University of Maine Augusta. There were also 13 competitors in the open citizens race before the Collegiate races.
In the Women's race Rebecca Broadbent (North Dighty, MA) , a junior from Vermont Tech, won the women's 5K with a great time of 21:54 and almost 2 minutes in front of her rival from Paul Smith's college Chloe Matillo. The race was fun to watch as the 2 battled for first for the first 2500 meters of the race. Adaiah Bauer from Paul Smith's College rounded out the top 3 in the women's race. NHTI Managed the team women with 5 runners placing 4-8 in the individual results.
In the Men's race Vermont tech had 2 runners. James Macdonald, a senior at Vermont Tech finished the 8K course in 44:38 in16th place followed by Tyler Gammel, a Sophomore and ran his first 8K race finishing 19th in 49:22. 2 more Paul Smith's College runners placed 1-2 in the men's race, with Joseph St. Cyr (30:49) beating out team mate Robert Calamia (31:31), followed by Chaim Tendler (32:36) of NHTI in third. Despite the 1-2 finish, NHTI was able to claim the team title by just 3 points over Paul Smith's College.
Spectators and team mates raved at the ability to see the runners throughout most of the course. Steve Croucher, Athletic Director at Randolph Union High School mentioned that "The course was well designed & marked...with clean, easy to read signage...and I loved the "home grown" syrup for awards.
Next up for Vermont Tech is the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on September 17th.
