Randolph Center VT - The women's soccer match vs NHTI on 10/1 was a rematch of an earlier conference game in which VTC was with out a few players, and NHTI won the game 7-0. Yesterday's match was a different story that was dictated by VTC's defensive crew. The shot totals were less than half what they were in the first match. NHTI's #20 Maura Hart snuck away from our back line around the 18th and buried the ball in the back of the net at the 4:19 mark in the first half. For the next 85:41, VTC and NHTI played a 0-0 match with limited attempts and great defense played on both sides. Kate Rowley, Jennie Grenier, Kiana Royer, Dayna Goodell, Tucker Chapin and Cassandra Pelkey all combined on the back line to limit the high powered offense of the NHTI Lynx.
Meanwhile, the VTC possessions were getting better and better with Hayley Mears at center middie finding Jordan Bean, Sabrina Gardell, Cierra Favreau, and Cass Pelkey up top, Marina Sprague, Erin McQuade, and Brooke Bove on the outsides and working the ball down the field. Coach Grimes noted, "This is the best our women's team has played as a whole all year. I am so proud of the improvements we made from the first match against NHTI to today. It was a full team effort, and to play this well against the undefeated, 1st ranked team in the conference who hasn't lost in 5 years was something to build off of." Ashley Thompson was fantastic in goal for the Knights logging 10 saves in the match. VTC Knights play next at SUNY Adirondak on 10/16 at 2pm in New York.
