Soccer teams take a win and a tie over the weekend

Vermont Tech (VTC) hosted Hampshire College in both men's and women's soccer this weekend.  The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) doubleheader on Sunday, September 22 saw the women come away with a 1-1 tie, while the men won 2-1.

On the women's side, Vermont Tech had most of the posession throughout the game.  Hampshire managed to get on the board first with the only goal in the first half, in the 31st minute. Vermont Tech freshman Emily Amazeen tied the score in the 51st minute on an assist by Sophomore Kelsi Despins.

Aith a final regular time score of 1-1, two sudden death overtime periods were played, but.  neither team was able to find the net during overtime, and the game was completed with a 1-1 tie.

The Vermont Tech men beat Hampshire College 2–1 in the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday. VTC got on board first with a brilliant unassisted goal by Bryan Cole on a direct free kick in the 33rd minute. The knights were up 1-0 at the half.
The second half saw VTC seal the game with a second goal in the 68th minute. The goal was scored by Josh Ferris with an assist by Wellington Newton.  Newton won  the ball in his own defensive third and dribbled the length of the field before passing the ball to Ferris.
Hampshire scored in the 76th minute to make the remaining minutes of the game tense. VTC weathered the Hampshire pressure until the final whistle.

The next game for VTC men is Wednesday, September 25th at home against the visiting College of ST. Joseph's, and the women play again Sunday, September 29th vs UMaine Fort Kent in Randolph.
