POULTNEY, Vt. – The VTC women's basketball team won at Green Mountain College Saturday afternoon 99-75. Led by great three-point shooting from Mariah Rilling.
Green Mountain began the first quarter Saturday, outscoring the Lady Knight's 26-16. An aggressive ¾ court press helped force nine first-quarter turnovers by the Knights and aided the Eagles offense. That offense came from behind the three-point arc. Green Mountain connected on its first three possessions from behind the arc, hitting five three-pointers in the opening frame.
The Lady Knights came out in the second quarter looking like a different team. An 11-1 run in the first three minutes of the quarter quickly gave the Knights the lead. This scoring spurt was mostly due to the three-point shooting of Mariah Rilling, who netted four three-pointers in the quarter.
The Lady Knights began the third quarter on a 17-2 run. Gabrielle Norwood led all scorers with 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Jordanna Morris came off the bench adding a triple-double with 23 points, 11 assists, and 16 rebounds. Mariah Rilling shot 7 of 11 from downtown with 21 points respectively on the afternoon. The Lady Knight's scoring surge and defensive craftiness contributed to the lopsided win.
"I am impressed with our ladies response after the first quarter. They are fighters. Playing an entire semester with 6 players displays their resiliency and desire to win. Our freshman is truly passionate about their contribution and continues to find ways to positively impact games. I wouldn't trade them for anything."
VTC Lady Knight travels Williston, VT to face NCAA DII opponent Saint Michael's College for an exhibition game. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
