Randolph Center, VT - On Monday the women's basketball team was very close to beating conference opponent UMaine Machias. The Knights stated off slow, allowing the Clippers to go up 7-0 before the scoring started on a jumper by Shannon Cookson. The Knights were close to the lead, down 13-15 mid-way through the second half. The Clippers played tough defense, and the Knights missed too many shots to make up the difference, going down 27-19 at the half.
The Knights never gave up, and were down by 12 early in the 3rd period. In the 4th quarter, the Knights found thier rhythm and the back of the net, going on am 8-0 run starting at 4:35 left on the clock. Kiana Royer was fouled on a 3 point shot at 3:35 left, and made all three shots, followed by a umper by Mariah Rilling to bring the Knights within 4. The Knights fould right away to get the ball back with 15 second on the clock, and then were down by 5. The Knights attempted several shos and got the offensive boards, but couldn't get anything to drop. Madalyn Leggett made the final two free throws of the game, but with 1 second left on the clock the Knights ran out of time, and the Clippers won the game 55-52.
The Knights play at NHTI on Friday night, and return to action at Home on Saturday at 4pm vs UMaine Augusta.
