On Saturday afternoon, April 14th the Seawolves of Southern Maine Community College took both sides of a double-header against the Lady Knights of Vermont Tech by a final, respectively, of 11-3 victory in five innings and 8-2 in the late game.
In game one, sophomore Jamie Moody (Cumberland, ME) went 3-for-3 with 2 singles, 1 double and 2 RBIs. Freshman Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, NH) controlled game two by earning the win from the mound. Lewis also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a triple and one RBI.
The double-header on Sunday did not fair any better for the Lady Knights, as the Seawolves completed the four-game sweep. The early game was extremely close, going into an extra eighth inning before Southern Maine finished off the Knights by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the eighth to make the final 7-5. Game two, however, was not as close, with the home team coming out on top by a final of 7-1.
The Seawolves connected for 15 hits in game one. Leading the way was freshmen Ashley Pulk (Litchfield, ME) who went 3-4 with 2 singles, 1 double and 2 RBIs. Freshman Katelyn Benson (Westbrook, ME) scored a run and connected for 2 hits in game two including a single and a triple. Pitcher Charlotte Lewis (Chatham, NH) got the win in both games pitching 10 innings and allowing only 1 earned run.
The Seawolves improve to 12-9 overall and 8-1 in conference play. Vermont Tech is now 2-13 on the season, 0-9 in the YSCC and next go on the road to again play NHTI on Tuesday, April 17th.
