Bennington, VT - The Knight's men's soccer team traveled to Bennington for a mid-week non-conference matchup against Southern Vermont College. The Knights -- an accomplished academic group as a whole -- were down 5 starters who stayed behind to attend to classes. While it meant excellent playing time for several regular bench players, it highlighted the disparity between the teams, and the Knights suffered a 7-0 rout.
The Knights fended off the Mountaineers for much of the first half, though nonetheless found themselves down 2-0 at half. With only two substitutes and temperatures in the high 80's, the VTC players were a depleted bunch after the first 45 minutes. Thge situation didn't improve. Fatigue was evident throughout the second half as fresh SVC legs left VTC behind, and the Mountaneers racked up another 5 goals.
The Knights never quit and did mount attacks throughout the match. Freshman Scott Shepherd (Grantham, NH) led the team with three shots including two on goal that put the SVC keeper honest.
The men return to Randolph Center for their final homestand of the season this weekend.
