Alex Tyrrell is at Vermont Tech for his fourth season as Head Coach of the Men's basketball program. In his second season with the program Coach Tyrrell led the Knights to a 14-17 season, including 11-4 YSCC record, and he won the Coach of the Year Award in the Yankee Small College Conference.
This was an 8 win improvement on his first season back as the Head Coach, where the men went 6-20.
Coach Tyrrell graduated from Vermont Tech in 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management and Technology. As a player he captained the Men’s basketball team to back-to-back YSCC Conference Championships and three USCAA National Championship appearances, compiling a 69-31 record during that time. Tyrrell’s senior season he scored this 1000th point for the Knights and was awarded YSCC First-Team All-Conference, USCAA First-Team All-American, and Vermont Tech’s Male Athlete of the Year.
After graduating from Vermont Tech, Tyrrell served as an Assistant Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. While as a member of the Lakers staff he helped led the Lakers to a 23-9 record in his first year, finishing runner-up in both the regular season and conference tournament. During his second season the Lakers posted a 16-15 record. His role included, recruiting, game day preparation, player development, and on court coaching duties.
While at Iowa Lakes Coach Tyrrell also completed his Masters of Education from Iowa State University.
Prior to attending Vermont Technical College Tyrrell Spent his freshman season at San Diego Mesa Community College, in Claremont, California.
Tyrrell is from North Avoca, NSW in Australia.
