Randolph, VT: Vermont Tech started off the weekend against Villa Maria in a rematch of the national quaterfinal game last season. After a tough fought game the Knights were able to fight off the Vikings and cruise to a 103-86 win.
The Knights started the game by hitting three 3 pointers and taking a 9-0 lead. The Vikings quickly began to chip away at the lead and cut the lead within 4. After a back and forth stretch the Vikings guard Jaylen Hall hit a 3 pointer took a 2 point lead to go ahead 32-30 with 6:56 to go in the half. The Knights used a run of their own to take a lead 43-42 into the half.
As the second half got started, the two teams began trading buckets with neither team giving in. The Knights began to make a run in the final seven minutes of regulation pushing their advantage to double-digits. As the final horn rang, Villa had lost by a final score of 103-86. Drake Perry and Chance Cole led the Knights with 24 and 22. Jeremiah Shaw added 18 points.
On Saturday, Vermont Tech Knights took on USCAA D1 Bryant and Stratton- Albany. After a back and forth battle, the Knights prevailed to 88-82 victory over the Bobcats winning there 4th straight game.
The 1st half was back and forth but the Knights was able to go into half up 6. In the second half the Bobcats opened with a 19-8 run taking a 53-48 lead. VTC'S Jeremiah Shaw was able to stop the huge run with 2 big rebounds and 2 layups. Xavier Hicks made a layup with 9:45 to give Vermont Tech the lead back 56-55. The Knights would not give the lead back to the Bobcats. Jeremiah Shaw had a monster game 27 points and 15 rebounds. Chance Cole and Xavier Hicks added 17 and 16 respectively. Reggie Perez led the Bobcats with 29 points.
With the two wins the Knights improve to 13-6. " To get two wins against two really good quality teams is big for us heading into the 2nd half of our conference schedule. I'm really proud of our group." Coach Jamal Hughes said. Vermont Tech will play UM- Augusta and Central Maine next Saturday and Sunday.
