Knights Win in National Tournament First Round

The 10th seeded Vermont Tech Men's Basketball Team defeated the 7th seed Penn State Mont Alto 89-73 in the first round of the USCAA National Tournament. The Knights four players score at least 15 points. They also recorded a season high 60 rebounds. 

Mont Alto started quickly, jumping out to a 14-9 advantage. The Knights responded with a 10-1 run, thanks to back to back three's from Eric Montanez. A string of stops and transition buckets boosted the Knights lead to 11 points with 6:25 to go in the first half. The Nittany Lions called timeout and came back firing, as too the lead 36-35 after Jalen Smith went full length of the court for a basket. At the half the Knights led 40-36.

As the second half progressed the Knights built a double digit lead. They were about to hold that edge for the last ten minuts of the half to come away with the 89-73 win. 

The Knights were led by Jeremiah Shaw with 21 points and nine rebounds. Eric Montanez also added 20 points and 9 rebounds. 

The Knights Move on to the quarter-final to take on the two seed Villa Maria College. The game will tip at 6 p.m. Monday, March 4.
