Lynn, MA - Fisher College got off to a strong start going on a 9-0 run in the first three minutes of the game. Vermont Tech started inching their way back into the game as Junior Jamal Hughes (Stone Mountain, GA) got the offense going with a jump shot from behind the arc. With 14:02 left in the half, the Falcons called a timeout while holding an 11-8 lead over the Knights. Ira Haywood then hit two free throws to put the Falcons up 13-8, but not before Sophomore Joe Chevalier (Williston, VT) was able to hit a three pointer to bring the Green Knights within two points, 13-11. This would be as close as the Green Knights were able to get as the Falcons pulled ahead leading 34-29 at the half.
Hughes led the Knights with 11 points while grabbing four rebounds. Other key Green Knights players were Chevalier with six points, three rebounds and Logan White (So. Royalton, VT) with five points, one rebound.
The Green Knights came out to start the second half with determination, as White hit a three in the first minute to bring Vermont Tech within two points for the second time in the game, making the score 32-34. The Falcons would then go on to score two unanswered baskets as Hughes would be sent to the free throw line.
Coming into the second half Hughes was 2 points shy of 1,000 points, collected in just two years of play for Vermont Tech. As Hughes stepped to the line he would hit both 999 and 1,000 to become the ninth player at Vermont Tech to hit 1,000 points.
With 9:44 left in the game, Hughes came in for a layup, but Rusom bumped him to send him to the free throw line. Hughes hit both shots to make the score 50-43. Rusom then took the reins to lead the Falcons on 7-0 run to put the team up 57-43.
Tyler Shular and Haywood led the Falcons on the court with 11 points apiece; Haywood had five rebounds and Shular had four. Geodice Ortiz was another key player for the Falcons with nine points and eight rebounds.
