South Portland, ME - The Vermont Tech Men's Basketball team put together a stellar performance as they rolled over the University of Maine-Augusta Moose 83-51.
Brandon Matano (Jr./Honolulu, HI) scored the first bucket of the contest, by way of a steal, just :30 seconds into the game. The following possession, UMA tied the game at 2 with a Keith Chelsey jumper. After that score, Vermont Tech went on a 22-2 run, and from then on the game was never in doubt.
Matano led Vermont Tech with 12 of his finishing total of 18 points scored in the first half. He also added 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and a block. Andrew Scott (Fr./Melbourne, FL) scored 10 of his eventual 12 in the half, and Josh Lindsey chipped in 8 of his total of 13 in the period. Scott also finished with 8 rebounds, and Lindsey grabbed 6 of his own. Vermont Tech led 44-23 at the break.
Although the second half score was closer, the flow of the game was the same as the first. The Knights controlled the game in every aspect. UMA was not able to even put together a run of back-to-back baskets. To secure the final 33 points margin of victory, Ryan Follensbee (So./Sharon, VT) hit the final jumper of the game with :49 left, his 10th point of the game.
The Knights turned Augusta's 22 turnovers into 27 points, and dominated with their bench. The bench of VTC scored 31 to just 8 for the bench of the Moose.
UMA had two scorers in double figures. Chelsey led the team with 17, while Garrett Alley was close behind with 15.
With the win the men move to 13-8, 9-2 YSCC.
