Knights Finish Season With Road Victory in New York

Sneior Kevin Carr (Westminster, MD) finished his last regular season game in a Vermont Tech uniform in fine style.  Carr scored a career high 40 points and single-handedly destroyed the SUNY Canton Roos chances of making a late game comeback.

With 6:30 left to play, the Roos went on a 7-0 run, trimming the Knights 12 point lead to five, 67-62  After a time out, Carr led the Knights on a 20-4 run.  Carr hit three treys, hit 2  technical foul shots, and connected on two driving lay ups.  Junior Alex Tyrrell (Sydney, Australia) hit a key three and Frshman Lucas Dutil (Barre, VT) made an outstanding defensive play, picking off a pass near half court and driving to the basket for a lay up.  With two minutes left to play, the Knights broke the game wide open with a 17 point lead.

"This was like two different ball games," said Coach Dyer after the game. "In the first half we played pretty solid defense and ran a fairly patient offense.  In the second half, it was like the floodgates had opened. Both teams seemed to be able to score almost at will.  Foul trouble plagued us in the second half.  Luckily we locked it down in the last four minutes and Kevin did his magic on the offensive end.  He as just incredible."

The Knights held Canton to a mere 26 points in the first half and went to the locker room with a 35-26 lead.  Instead of coming out smoking in the second half, the Knights came out fouling.  Josh Lindsey (Junior, Palm Bay, FL), Jhason Clark (Junior, Albany, NY), Cody  Chamberlin (Sophomore, Northfield, VT) and Tyrrell all went to the bench with foul trouble.  The Roos consistently worked the ball inside to 6'6" Woody Jules. 6'2" guard Vonallen Pickett proved to be a potent inside/outside threat, hitting two threes and driving to the basket for six points.  Things were falling Canton's way until Carr worked his late game magic.  The Knights outscored the Roos 52-48 in the second half to seal the victory.

In addition to Carr's 40 point effort, Lucal Dutil added 15 points and Alex Tyrrell chipped in with 11 points.  Vonallen Pickett led the Roos with 26 points.  Woody Jules finished with 15 points.

The Knights finish the regular season with a 20-11 record.  Next up is the Yankee Small College Conference Tournament in Concord, NH.  The Knights will take on Central Maine in a tough opening round match up at 5PM on Friday, February 24.
