Yankee Small College Conference Names Soccer All-Conference Team
Lockerby garners honor; men and women both capture Sportsmanship Award
Concord, NH – The 2012 Men’s and Women’s All-Conference Soccer teams were announced today by the Yankee Small College Conference. For the second year, the conference was split into two divisions, East and West, with All-Conference teams comprising the top five athletes along with one additional Player of the Year from each side for both men and women. In addition, the conference named a Coach of the Year for each division, as well as handed out Sportsmanship awards to deserving teams. All awarded were voted on by the coaches and tallied by the conference Sports Information Director.
For the Eastern Division Men, Tyler Troup of the University of Maine-Machias captured Player of the Year honors, with Northern Maine Community College winning both the Sportsmanship award along with Bill Casavant being named Coach of the Year. Southern Maine Community College grabbed three of the five spots on the All-Conference team with Peter Dore, Kyle Ehlers and Adam Burpee all making the team. Maine-Machias added to their Player of the Year honor by taking the last two spots on the team with Olaff Alexis Mina and Christian Olmedo.
Maine-Machias continued their dominance of the All-Conference awards on the Eastern side, as Emma LeGallais was named Player of the Year for the women. In addition, the Clippers added two more to the All-Conference team with Cayla Thomas and Sarah Lesnock. Southern Maine also continued their strong showing in the awards with Ali Waterman and Michela Desjardins being named to the team. Melinda Gray of Unity College rounded out the team for 2012. Jeremy VonOesen of Unity came home with his second Coach of the Year honor, also taking the award last year, and Unity also took the Sportsmanship award.
In the Western Division, Christian Bashios of NHTI snagged the Player of the Year award with his teammate Trevor Carignan also making the team. Hampshire College captured three of the spots with Viva Hansen, Jon Butler and Alex Larson. The 2012 team was complete with the addition of Arnaldo Dju from the College of St. Joseph’s (VT). Megan Schuck from Hampshire was named Coach of the Year, and Vermont Tech garnered the Sportsmanship Award.
NHTI completed a sweep of Player of the Year honors in the West with Tulia LaCroix named the recipient for the women. The Lynx also had Carissa Pelletier named to the team. Paul Smith’s College grabbed three of the All-Conference spots with Nicole Landry, Jen Maguder and Ellie Matalavage. Ashley Lockerby of Vermont Tech solidified the final spot on the team. For the second year in a row, Dan Burke of Paul Smith’s was named Coach of the Year while Vermont Tech took the Sportsmanship Award.
