USCAA Announces 2013 Basketball Division II All-Americans
Tyrrell First Team; Baker and Lindsey Second Team; Vellek Honorable Mention
Newport News, VA – At the banquet for the National Basketball Tournament the USCAA announced the Men's and Women's Division II Basketball All-American Teams.
From Vermont Tech:
Men's First Team - Alex Tyrrell (Sr./Sydney Australia)
Tyrrell averaged 16.5 points per game, shooting 45.7% from the field and 84.6% from the free throw line. He was ranked among the Yankee Conference leaders in the following categories: PPG (4th), APG (8th), SPG (6th), FG% (18th), 3FG% (23rd) and Ass/TO ratio (22nd). He was in the top 23 in 6 categories. For the Knights, Alex ranked 1st in PPG and 2nd in assists, steals and assist/turnover ratio.
Men's Second Team - Josh Lindsey (Sr./Palm Bay, FL)
Lindsey ranked among Yankee Conference leaders in the following categories: PPG (9th), RPG (4th), BPG (2nd) and FG% (1st). For the Knights, Josh ranks 2nd in PPG, 1st in RPG, 1st in BPG and 1st in FG%. He averaged 14.7 ppg, shooting 58%, and 7.4 rpg.
Women's Second Team - Ama Baker (Jr./Fitchburg, MA)
Baker averaged 17.4 ppg, 7 rpg, 4.8 apg and 3.8 spg. She was 5th in the Yankee Small College Conference, and 15th in the USCAA, in scoring, as well as 1st in the YSCC in both assists and steals. She was 4th in the nation in steals per game and 8th nationally in assists. In addition, she wass 14th in the YSCC in rebounding, which was impressive fort someone who is only 5’4” and 15th in assist-to-turnover ratio, averaging nearly a 1-to-1.
Women's Honorable Mention - Kelly Vellek (Sr./Burlington, VT)
Vellek was the leading scorer on Vermont Tech. She averaged 18.5 ppg, shooting 30% from 3 and 63% from the free throw line. She was essential to the Knights, averaging a playing time of just over 36 minutes for the season. In addition, she also averaged 4.4 rpg, 2.7 apg and 2.9 spg. She was 3rd in the YSCC and 10th in the USCAA in scoring. She was also 6th in the YSCC and 12th nationally in steals per game, and 12th in the YSCC in assists per game. Vellek accomplished a career goal this year as she hit her 1000th point during the first semester.
