SHAPE Fitness Classes

SHAPE offers a variety of Land and Water Aerobic Classes. You may join a fitness class at any time.   All classes are available for a daily fee if you are unable to make most classes or if want to try the class first.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

YOGA - Beginning Ashtanga Yoga is a combination of breathing, stretching, muscle toning, aerobics and deep relaxation techniques. 

MORNING ENERGIZER - This 60-minute land aerobics workout has it all: upper and lower body strength training, abdominal work and great step cardio.

TAI CHI - A gentle, holistic Oriental Movement exercise art and self-defense form. This series of movements develops and enhances health, energy, relaxation and well being.

LOW IMPACT WATER AEROBICS - Gently improve your muscle tone and cardiovascular endurance by using the power of the water throughout your movements. You don’t have to know how to swim.

BOOT CAMP - Leah Gifford, Instructor

Taught by SHAPE member and Certified Personal Trainer Leah Gifford, Boot Camp is an intense fitness workout– strength training and cardio combined for a total body workout.  Participants will start with some brief stretching, and use their body weight during strength training exercises.  Proper technique on strength exercise will be taught, which participants can carry over when using weights in the fitness center.  All abilities are welcome, as many exercises can be modified based on your fitness level.

VINYASA YOGA  - Deonne Myrick, Instructor

Looking for a way to unwind?  Stretch, strengthen and rejuvenate your body and mind in a Vinyasa Yoga class.  We will focus on breath with movement and alignment to create a safe and sustainable practice.  All levels welcome!

The next 6-week session will run April 12 - May 17, 2016 Classes are expected to be held in Allen House (The brick house as you drive onto campus).

VINYASA YOGA  - Adam Steinberg, Instructor

Join us in awakening the divine, universal energy of Shakti with this energetic, fluid and empowering practice. Postures are sequenced together creatively to encourage freedom in movement, as well as celebrate an open and receptive heart. This is a practice focused on “cultivating the creative spiritual potential of a human to uphold values, speak truth, and focus on the compassion and consciousness needed to serve and heal others."

Dedicated regular practice includes meditation, pranayama (breath-work,) chanting mantra, and asana (postures.) A beautiful opportunity to express oneself freely and experience the connection between the physical body, the energetic body and the spiritual body.

The next 4-week session will run April 30 - May 21, 2016 Classes are  in SHAPE.
