SHAPE Fitness Classes

 

SHAPE offers a variety of Land and Water Aerobic Classes. You may join a fitness class at any time.   All classes are available for a daily fee if you are unable to make most classes or if want to try the class first.

Registration is not required in advance,  there is usually room in all classes. However to guarantee you have a spot you may e-mail us to reserve a spot in class.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

YOGA - Beginning Ashtanga Yoga is a combination of breathing, stretching, muscle toning, aerobics and deep relaxation techniques. 

MORNING ENERGIZER - This 60-minute land aerobics workout has it all: upper and lower body strength training, abdominal work and great step cardio.

TAI CHI - A gentle, holistic Oriental Movement exercise art and self-defense form. This series of movements develops and enhances health, energy, relaxation and well being.

LOW IMPACT WATER AEROBICS - Gently improve your muscle tone and cardiovascular endurance by using the power of the water throughout your movements. You don’t have to know how to swim.

FITNESS SWIM TRAINING  - Bethany Bosch, Instructor

Bethany, a current part-time Vermont Tech student, is again offering a Masters and High School Fitness Swim Program on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 6:15-7:00am or 7am-7:45am in the SHAPE pool. This program is open to swimmers of all speeds and abilities. Whether your goal is to be in better shape, train for a triathlon or swim competitively, Marathon Swimmer Bethany Bosch is offering coached sessions to help you achieve your swimming and health goals for the New School Year. The pool is not open during this time except for participants of this program.

Looking for a way to unwind?  Stretch, strengthen and rejuvenate your body and mind in a Vinyasa Yoga class.  We will focus on breath with movement and alignment to create a safe and sustainable practice.  All levels welcome!

Classe are held in Allen House (The brick house on the left as you drive onto campus).

WATER FITNESS  - Kaite Ward, Instructor

A Complete Full Body Workout

A combination of toning, strengthening, aerobics and stretching, this class uses the natural buoyancy and resistance of the water to provide a perfect stress reliever for whatever life throws at you.  The individual exercises can be modified to accommodate all levels of fitness on the fly. They are organized and paced so everyone can last the entire hour. After just a couple of weeks you will notice better muscle tone, increased energy levels, better posture and a more positive look on life.  So, come have fun while doing your body good.

ZUMBA FITNESS – Christina Manazir, Instructor

ZUMBA Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance that uses awesome music & choreographed steps to create a fitness party atmosphere.  It is a total body workout, combining all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance & flexibility.Exercise in Disguise – you don’t realize you are getting a great workout because you are having too much fun!  The Rhythms used in class include Salsa, Cumbia, Cha Cha, Merengue, Reggaeton, Charleston & Country.  No dance experience needed.  All fitness levels invited.  Men & women welcomed.  Come join the Party!

Kettlebell Fitness - Ginger Potwin, Instructor

Kettlebell– In this class you will learn step-by-step instruction in several kettlebell exercises (e.g. Kettlebell hinging, Kettlebell swing, kettlebell clean and snatch, lateral Pendulum, deadlift and much more). Along with proper instruction to learn mechanically sound form for each movement. 

Classes will be set-up using a work-your-body circuit combining kettlebell, body weight, steel mace, steel clubs and battle rope exercises.  Expect to come out sweaty, worked, and smiling.

Benefits from Kettlebell Fitness: Cardio and strength training, build lean muscle, increase flexibility, improve mobility and coordination, improve posture and range of motion, builds speed and explosive stength, burns fat.

BOOT CAMP - Leah Gifford, Instructor

Taught by SHAPE member and Certified Personal Trainer Leah Gifford, Boot Camp is an intense fitness workout– strength training and cardio combined for a total body workout.  Participants will start with some brief stretching, and use their body weight during strength training exercises.  Proper technique on strength exercise will be taught, which participants can carry over when using weights in the fitness center.  All abilities are welcome, as many exercises can be modified based on your fitness level.

Boot Camp classes will resume the first week of February.
